Freestanding Wall Case Studies
Efficient Barrier Helps Maximize Buildable Footprint
When a new gas station was to be constructed in an incredibly tight footprint, a slope needed to be replaced with a retaining wall that could support the existing building and parking lot on the other side of the property line. Schreiter Concrete provided the Redi-Rock blocks for the wall, including the freestanding hollow-core blocks used to create a rebar and concrete reinforced barrier directly atop the retaining wall. The space savings of tying the barrier into the wall design helped maximize the usable space in the prime location.
Spiraling Freestanding Walls Highlight Water-Free Landscaping for DOT
Challenged by the Nevada DOT to landscape 80 acres (32 hectares) along the freeway in Las Vegas without using any water, landscape architects from C.F. Shuler, Inc. turned to Redi-Rock when using native sandstone proved cost-prohibitive. Jensen Precast supplied Redi-Rock freestanding blocks in the Cobblestone texture to build spiraling walls, ranging from 3 feet to 6 feet (0.9 meters to 1.8 meters) tall. The walls were stained to match the native red sandstone and topped off with caps to finish the vision.
Terraced Backyard Creates Ramp Access to Lake Erie
When a homeowner wanted a ramp in their backyard that would lead down to a boathouse on Lake Erie, a smattering of Redi-Rock blocks were used to overcome the 1:1 slope of the hillside and create the vision of landscape architect Doug Baldi. The curving, terraced walls are topped off with freestanding blocks supplied and installed by North Coast Marine Inc. Adorned with lights, the Redi-Rock walls outline and illuminate the stairways, pathways, and mini-putting greens that now make up the homeowner’s backyard.
Available in Great Textures
With the appearance of natural stone, people will have to do a double take to realize it's concrete.
